My comment about him being derivative is only to show that new stuff comes out of old stuff, it isn't meant as s light, more an evolution of a subject. (He didn't invent either 'internet' or 'cyberpunk', the term he's famous for is cyberspace).

The book was influential and well recognised from the start but it took a while to cross over. Which only goes to show what a small group of passionate readers can do for a book (even before the internet).mooderinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01523337588830695638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1061937348591302555.post-9458966114398573672011-11-01T14:50:20.892+00:002011-11-01T14:50:20.892+00:00Neuromancer is one of my favorite books, and I'...Neuromancer is one of my favorite books, and I've read it multiple times. I don't think you are being fair to Gibson. He created the terms internet, and also created the entire genre of Cyberpunk. I don't know if that's what you mean by "preeminent" but before him, the genre simply didn't exist. And Gibson had quite a reputation with short stories prior to the release of his novel that the event was highly lauded. Neuromancer is his magnum opus...he'll never pen another book that is as good but his genius is without dispute.Michael Offutt, Phantom Readerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10557969104886174930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1061937348591302555.post-33954755634549557282011-10-31T23:13:57.715+00:002011-10-31T23:13:57.715+00:00@Alex - I promise nothing.@Alex - I promise nothing.mooderinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01523337588830695638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1061937348591302555.post-78312381217695669702011-10-31T22:37:05.149+00:002011-10-31T22:37:05.149+00:00Please don't ever analyze my book...Please don't ever analyze my book...Alex J. That's just how it goes sometimes. It was only when a good buddy of mine listened to me tell my story that I learned about Neuromancer and read it. Frankly, I liked it okay but wasn't in love with it, and though I can see why people will call my story derivative, I don't fully buy it. All the cyberpunk I have now finally read is quite far into the future, while mine is near future. I cared about telling the story within the context of the very beginnings of such technology.Ted Crosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09022309459554237650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1061937348591302555.post-75230018544977652722011-10-31T20:44:30.926+00:002011-10-31T20:44:30.926+00:00I love these first chapter breakdowns.
